IMM is a limited liability company based in the UK. The company was formed in 1990
and is based in Exeter in the UK. IMM's mission is:
To provide high quality services and support through partnerships with
communities, governments and other civil society organisations to achieve
equitable and sustainable development.
Key to our work is our commitment to building partnerships for equitable and
sustainable development. To this aim, we build the capacity of our civil society
and government partners in ways that foster ownership and encourage them to become
protagonists in the development process so that they can more effectively address
local needs and aspirations. We believe strongly that policy change must be grounded
in the realities of the livelihoods of the people, and much of our work with our
partners aims to encourage them to facilitate people to have a greater voice in
policy and management decision-making processes.
IMM and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility)
IMM is committed to being a socially responsible organisation and as such is evolving a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Strategy. The three key elements of this strategy are:
Partnership
Is central to IMM's work. We believe that effective development, which is both sustainable and equitable, can best be achieved by developing and supporting strong and lasting partnerships with the people we work with. Through such partnerships we can learn to be better at what we do and we can help our partners to become better at what they do. This approach may be more difficult and slower than more conventional development approaches but we believe it is more likely to generate development that reflects the needs and aspirations of our partners in ways that they can take ownership of and move forwards at their pace.
Equity
Is also key. IMM is committed to the elimination of global poverty. The focus of our work is on poverty reduction in all its aspects. This means addressing poverty as it affects different stakeholders such as the young, the very old, women, those in ill health, ethnic minorities and other marginalised people. It also means addressing the different ways in which poverty manifests itself such as low incomes, food insecurity, lack of voice, vulnerability, ignorance and exclusion.
Sustainability
Underlies what we do. Without environmental, economic, social and institutional sustainability the benefits of what we do will not last. The partnership approach aims to build institutional sustainability; the equity focus enhances appropriate social and economic structures and processes; and the underlying principle of sustainability ensures that development provides benefits for current and future generations.
Linked to these three strategic elements are cross-cutting concerns:
Quality
Linking these three core elements of our work is our commitment to quality. IMM believes strongly in providing high quality services to its clients and partners. Without a sustained high quality of service we can be of little value to the development process.
Transparency
We believe in transparency in what we do and ensure that as much of our work as possible is placed openly on our website as often as possible.
Professionalism
We are guided in our work by a Code of Professional Conduct which helps to make crucial decisions about how we implement our strategy.
