IMM has been working with the Fisheries Administration for a number of years, helping with the policy and institutional reforms that the Fisheries Administration is implementing. These are designed to assist FiA to become a much more efficient and effective organisation.

The work involves:

  • Building policy and planning capacity;
  • Developing a 10 year strategic plan, developing a 3 year rolling plan, developing annual sector and sub-sector plans;
  • Developing a Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CamCode);
  • Establishing a Monitoring and Evaluation Unit and establishing M&E systems;
  • Developing a Human Resources Management Strategy;
  • Improving service provision and developing informed demand;
  • Improving Knowledge management.

Updates

14-May-2008: FiA develops ten year Strategic Planning Framework

FiA has been developing a 10 year Strategic Planning Framework for the fisheries scetor. This complments and gives life to the Master Plan developed with Word Bank assistance. FiA has recently been holding strategic planning workshops on key issues to inform this process.

14-May-2008: Human Resources Management Strategy designed.

IMM has been working with the Fisheries Administratiuon to develop a Human Resources Management sttrategy. This has now been designed and is starting to be put into place.

14-May-2008: M&E systems now in place.

FiA has been developing a series of seven M&E components. Five of these are now in place and operational. Two more (the Participatory Policy Impact Assessment and Refection processes) are still being developed.

14-May-2008: First draft of CamCode being developed.

The Fisheries Administration is developing a first draft of CamCode based on the recommendation from a wide array of reports and papers written by many government, NGO, donor and academic organisations.
